WE ARE ABOUT DEVELOPING PEOPLE AT WORK
We see evidence that people can develop the technical ability to solve almost any of the complex tasks facing humanity and facing most organizations. Feeding people, cleaning up pollution, producing sufficient energy, curing major diseases and attaining profitable companies are within the technical grasp of people. The roadblocks to such accomplishments, however, lie in the problems of people and human relations. Without cooperation, little can be accomplished; with cooperation all things are possible.
Succeeding in any modern organization requires depending on others and knowing how to work with people. You seldom hear of a manager losing his or her job due to a lack of technical skills, but you regularly hear of people failing because they simply can’t get along with others.
Well-managed companies care about their people. Their actions say loudly and clearly that people are seen as the most important of all resources. Poorly managed companies may talk about human relations, but their actions belie their words.
WE ARE ABOUT HELPING PEOPLE HAVE REAL TALK AND DO REAL WORK
The cost of people is the biggest single cost of any organization. An organization must use its people well. The cost of people has led us to do much research regarding the work itself among employees in organizations. Hence, we wrote the book Fake Work. This book is about work and the work people must do to help their organizations be effective. Much of the work people do in organizations is fake and not productive. Fake work in the world of work represents about 50% of the work being done. Most employees want to do real work but they need to be taught what real work is.
Over 80% of workers do not understand strategy, alignment, execution, and how they can be more effective employees.
- Peterson and Nielson
83% of managers and employees admit they struggle with not only what to say, but knowing how to say it. It’s about having REAL Conversations that Create Respect, Build Relationships, and Get Results.
“…15% know the top goals and priorities… and only 19% of employees feel passionate about organizational priorities…so they have no commitment…”
“…a staggering 95% of employees in a company are either unaware of, or do not understand the strategy.”
- Kaplan and Norton
We believe people want to do well and serve others. People need to be taught, appreciated, communicated with, given chances and respected. When this happens people help the organization become more valuable.
